This premise is what sets the Udta Teer trailer apart from other spy comedies, because the genre isn’t a “serious spy thriller” it’s full-blown “tod-fod comedy,” as the makers themselves have described it. 

The trailer appears to use this identity confusion as the main source of its humour. Rather than presenting Bilal as a typical serious spy character, the film puts him in situations where his forgotten past and assumed present identity constantly clash.

This unusual setup gives Udta Teer a mix of spy elements, comedy, action and chaos. The story moves between Bilal’s secret mission and his new belief that he is part of India’s counter-terrorism team, creating a character who does not even fully understand his own situation.

A Spy Comedy With a Different Tone

What makes the trailer stand out is its tone. Udta Teer does not appear to be aiming for the dark and serious atmosphere usually associated with spy thrillers. Instead, the makers have described it as a “tod-fod comedy”, suggesting that the film is built around over-the-top situations, confusion and plenty of comic chaos.

Ayushmann’s character is at the centre of this madness. He has to deal with people who believe different things about him while he himself is struggling to understand who he really is.

The film also brings Sara Ali Khan into the story, adding another important character to the mix. Her role appears to contribute to the film’s larger comedy-action setup, although the trailer leaves plenty of details under wraps.

The solid part is that the trailer’s pacing is really energetic. Within the first 30 seconds you already get the sense that the film isn’t taking itself too seriously, and that’s the trailer’s biggest strength. It’s a mix of comedy, action, and a touch of patriotism, and the editing is tight enough that even 3 minutes 18 seconds doesn’t feel long. 

What I personally liked: 

• Ayushmann Khurrana’s comic timing, his expressions as a confused spy carry real strength. 

• Sara Ali Khan’s energetic screen presence adds both humor and charm to the trailer. 

• The background score, which makes the action sequences punchier. 

What might feel a little predictable: the mistaken-identity comedy genre has been done before, so execution alone will make or break this film, and we’ll find that out on October 9. 

What Works Well in the Udta Teer Trailer

One of the strongest parts of the Udta Teer trailer is its energetic pacing. From the opening moments, it becomes clear that the film is not trying to present itself as a serious or realistic spy thriller. Within the first 30 seconds, the trailer already establishes its comic tone, giving viewers a clear idea of the kind of entertainer they can expect.

The trailer moves quickly between comedy, action and the spy angle without spending too much time on one particular scene. There are explosions, chase sequences, funny reactions and moments of confusion, which keep the trailer moving. Even though the trailer runs for around 3 minutes and 18 seconds, the fast editing makes it feel relatively easy to watch.

I also liked how the trailer mixes its comedy with a small patriotic touch. The film has a spy and counter-terrorism setup, so there are moments that bring in the national-security angle, but these are balanced with lighter scenes and jokes. This combination gives the trailer a more commercial Bollywood entertainer feel rather than making it look like a heavy thriller.

What I Personally Liked

Ayushmann Khurrana’s Comic Timing

Ayushmann Khurrana is clearly one of the main reasons the trailer works. His character is caught between two identities, and his confused expressions become an important part of the humour.

Instead of relying only on dialogue-based jokes, the trailer uses his facial expressions and reactions to create several funny moments. His character often looks genuinely confused about what is happening around him, which fits well with the memory-loss storyline.

The contrast between his character’s serious spy background and his confused behaviour gives the comedy a different flavour. It will be interesting to see whether the film can maintain this balance throughout its runtime.

Sara Ali Khan’s Energetic Presence

Sara Ali Khan also brings plenty of energy to the trailer. Her screen presence adds another layer of humour and keeps the scenes from becoming too serious.

She appears comfortable with the film’s fast-paced and slightly chaotic tone. Her interactions with Ayushmann’s character could become an important part of the comedy, especially as the confusion around his identity grows.

The trailer doesn’t reveal everything about her character, which leaves some curiosity about how she fits into Bilal’s story.

The Background Score

What Might Feel a Little Predictable

While the trailer has plenty of energy, some parts of the story may feel familiar. The mistaken-identity setup is not completely new, especially in comedy films where a character is forced to live under an identity that isn’t really theirs.

The basic idea of a spy losing his memory and then believing that he works for the opposite side naturally creates comic situations. However, viewers may be able to guess some of the misunderstandings and confusion that could follow.

The trailer also gives us several clues about the direction of the story. Once Bilal starts believing that he is a CTS officer, it is easy to expect situations where his real identity comes close to being exposed.

This doesn’t necessarily mean the film cannot surprise audiences. The real test will be whether the full movie adds enough unexpected twists, characters and comic situations beyond the basic identity-confusion premise.

For me, the trailer’s biggest advantage is that it doesn’t hide what kind of movie it wants to be. It looks like a fast, loud and chaotic comedy-action entertainer, with Ayushmann’s confused character at the centre of everything.

Now the interesting part will be seeing whether the full movie can maintain the same energy and comedy beyond the trailer.
