What worked: Rajkummar Rao does not “act” Shahid. He disappears into him. The body language, the tired eyes in the prison scenes and the calm stubbornness in court all feel lived-in.  

It is easy to see why it earned him the National Award. Zeeshan Ayyub is quietly devastating as the brother, and Kay Kay Menon brings menace without shouting. The courtroom scenes feel like real arguments, not movie speeches. 

What did not fully work: A few side characters are sketched lightly, and viewers who want a fast, twist-driven thriller may find the pace measured.

The film also assumes some knowledge of the era. That is why I suggested reading the real story first. 

The bottom line: For me, the Shahid OTT release is the best reason to open Prime Video this week. If you only trust one line in this Rajkummar Rao Shahid movie review, trust this one: it is a film that stays with you for days.
