Friday OTT Releases are the reason my weekend plans change every single week, and October 16, 2026 is no exception. Over the last two days I went through official press pages, platform announcements and trailer breakdowns, and one entertainment report alone lists nine titles arriving on streaming this Friday.
From that pile I trimmed the list down to six that genuinely deserve your time. They sit across Netflix, ZEE5, SonyLIV, Apple TV, Prime Video and Lionsgate Play, in languages ranging from Turkish and Malayalam to Tamil and English.
One honest note before we dive in: these titles go live on Friday, so I have not streamed them yet. What you are reading is a preview built from trailers, official synopses and the critic reactions to the films that already had theatrical runs.
I will add my own verdicts to this page after the weekend.
If you want new OTT releases this week sorted by mood, runtime and platform, this is the guide I wish I had on Thursday night.
Whether you search for October 16 OTT releases to plan a family evening or you simply want a smart weekend OTT watchlist, I have kept things practical: what each title is about, who is in it, how long it runs, and who it suits best.
What Are the Friday OTT Releases on October 16, 2026?
Here is the short version of the Friday OTT Releases. Of the nine titles listed for Friday, I picked six using three filters: a release date confirmed by an official source or at least two separate listings, a story hook that actually comes through in the trailer, and variety across platforms and languages.
These are the Friday OTT Releases I am planning my weekend around:
# | Title | Platform | Language | Format | Best for |
1 | Money Trap: The Karun Treasure | Netflix | Turkish | 8-episode heist comedy series | Binge nights |
2 | Aasha | ZEE5 | Malayalam | Psychological thriller, 2h 35m | Performance lovers |
3 | DC | SonyLIV | Tamil, plus Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada | Crime drama film | Action fans |
4 | Tenzing | Apple TV | English | Everest biographical drama | Family viewing |
5 | Masterplan | Prime Video | English | Crime comedy film | Light, easy fun |
6 | Sacrifice | Lionsgate Play | English | Survival thriller | Thriller seekers |
The numbers behind these Friday OTT Releases tell their own story. That is 6 titles on 6 platforms in at least 5 languages. The gap between cinema and streaming also varies wildly: Tenzing reaches Apple TV just 7 days after its limited theatrical release, Aasha arrives 35 days after its September 11 theatre debut, and DC lands 70 days after its August 7 opening. Three films, three very different waiting times.
How I Chose These New OTT Releases This Week
I did not want to simply copy a press list. So every one of the OTT releases on Netflix and ZEE5 and the other platforms here appears in at least two separate release listings, and where an official page existed I checked it first: Netflix’s own newsroom for Money Trap, Apple’s press page for Tenzing, and ZEE5’s announcement for Aasha.
I left three of the nine listed Friday OTT Releases out on purpose. Their streaming dates did not hold up when I cross-checked them, and I would rather publish six solid picks than nine shaky ones. If any of them are confirmed for this Friday, I will add them here.
Money Trap: The Karun Treasure (Netflix): The Heist Franchise Becomes a Series
Netflix has the heaviest commitment among the Friday OTT Releases. Money Trap: The Karun Treasure is the series version of Yılmaz Erdoğan’s Turkish heist franchise, and it premieres globally on Netflix on October 16 as an eight-episode run.
Erdoğan wrote it, Şenol Sönmez directs, and the ensemble includes Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ, Ezgi Mola, Rıza Kocaoğlu and Demet Akbağ.

The hook is simple and fun. A mysterious map surface, and veteran scam artist Asım Noyan decides to pull one last con before leaving that life behind. Of course, he is not alone, because ruthless rivals and international treasure hunters are chasing the same legend, from the streets of Istanbul down into its underground labyrinths. You can read the official description on Netflix’s newsroom.
Why I am excited: the last film in the franchise came out in 2019, so fans have waited 7 years, and eight episodes give the gang far more room than that 121-minute film ever had.
Why I am cautious: one review of the 2019 film described it as a screwball comedy that did not deliver enough laughs, so I want to see whether the longer format fixes the pacing. The series is rated TV-MA for violence, strong language and substance use, so keep it for grown-up viewing.
Among all the OTT releases on Netflix and ZEE5 this Friday, this one asks for the biggest time commitment, so my plan is to watch episode one on Friday night and decide from there. I could not confirm Hindi dubbing, so check the language options on your profile.
Aasha (ZEE5): Urvashi vs Joju George in a Road-Accident Thriller
If I had to name the performance-driven pick this week’s Friday OTT Releases, it would be Aasha. This Malayalam psychological thriller reached theatres on September 11 and starts streaming on ZEE5 on October 16.
Urvashi plays the title character, a stubborn, fiercely independent mother whose life is knocked off course by a minor road accident. The other driver, Jeemon, is played by Joju George, and what starts as a roadside argument grows into a legal and personal war. Aishwarya Lekshmi plays Urvashi’s daughter, with Vijayaraghavan and Joy Mathew in the cast.
A few facts are worth knowing. Debutant Safar Sanal directs Joju George co-wrote the screenplay with Sanal and Ramesh Girija, which is rare for an actor to play the antagonist.

The film runs 2 hours 35 minutes, which is 155 minutes, so it is not a quick watch. Madhu Neelakandan handles the cinematography, and Govind Vasanth composes the music.
Critics have been warm. The Week’s reviewer felt the film flips our sympathies halfway through and praised Urvashi’s range, while Onmanorama’s first-half review also singled out her performance as the reason the central conflict works.
My take: I care less about the plot twist and more about watching two heavyweights share a frame, because this is their first on-screen collaboration. Start it before 9:30 PM, otherwise you will be watching past.
DC (SonyLIV): Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Dark Take on Devdas
DC is the biggest commercial name on the list. Directed by Arun Matheswaran, this Tamil film reimagines Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s classic novel Devdas as a violent crime drama.
Lokesh Kanagaraj, the filmmaker behind Kaithi, Vikram, Leo and Coolie, plays Devadas in his first lead acting role. Wamiqa Gabbi plays Chandra, a woman trying to escape exploitation, Sanjana Krishnamoorthy also stars, and Anirudh Ravichander composes the music.
Here are the numbers. DC opened in theatres on August 7 and reaches SonyLIV on October 16, exactly 70 days later, in 5 languages: Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. Reports put its worldwide gross above ₹101 crore, and early coverage said it crossed ₹50 crore within four days of release.
Earlier coverage also mentioned a Sun NXT window from September 4 in South Indian languages, so the SonyLIV date matters most if you want the Hindi version.
My take: what I want to see is whether a first-time lead can carry a whole film on his shoulders, since critics praised his performance. It is violent and dark, so it is not a family movie night pick.
Tenzing (Apple TV): The Everest Story Told Through the Sherpa’s Eyes
Tenzing is the odd one out on this list, and I mean that kindly. Apple’s film tells the 1953 Everest story, now 73 years old, through the eyes of Tenzing Norgay rather than the usual Western-explorer framing.
Genden Phuntsok plays Tenzing, Tom Hiddleston plays Edmund Hillary, and Willem Dafoe and Caitríona Balfe complete the main cast. Jennifer Peedom directs a story she developed with writer Luke Davies.
What hooked me is the central idea in Apple’s own synopsis: Western climbers see a mountain to conquer, while Tenzing reveres it as Chomolungma, the sacred mother goddess.

It opened in select US theatres on October 9 and hit Apple TV globally on October 16, just 7 days later. It is rated PG, which makes it the easiest title on this page to put on with the family. You can read the official synopsis on Apple’s press page.
Masterplan (Prime Video): A Mona Lisa Heist with a Family Twist
For a lighter evening, Masterplan on Prime Video is the easy yes. It is a crime comedy with Stanley Tucci as Roger, a skilled thief who left crime behind and returns for one outrageous job: stealing the Mona Lisa.
He recruits a hacker and a French explosives expert, then reveals that the two are estranged siblings and that he is their father. That reveal is the whole charm of the premise: a family reunion with explosives.
I could not find a confirmed runtime or director in the sources I checked, so look at the title page on Prime Video before you plan your evening.
Sacrifice (Lionsgate Play): A Charity Event That Turns into a Hostage Nightmare
Sacrifice has the wildest premise of the six. On a remote Greek island, a billionaire and his pop-star wife host a charity celebration that turns into a nightmare when an extremist group led by a woman named Joan takes the guests hostage.
The group believes a human sacrifice is needed to save the world, and the hostages must fight to survive. The cast is the draw: Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Evans, Vincent Cassel and Salma Hayek, four recognisable names in one survival thriller.
My take: the premise is bonkers in the best way, but a strong cast does not guarantee a tight script, so I am holding my verdict until I have seen it.
Which of These Friday OTT Releases Should You Watch First?
Choosing between Friday OTT Releases is half the battle, so here is my quick guide by mood. Keep it handy when the group chat starts arguing.
If you want… | Start with | Platform |
A show you can binge across several nights | Money Trap: The Karun Treasure | Netflix |
A gripping performance and a twisty story | Aasha | ZEE5 |
Violence, music and a big-screen feel | DC | SonyLIV |
Something the whole family can sit through | Tenzing | Apple TV |
A no-stress laugh with a heist | Masterplan | Prime Video |
High-stakes survival with famous faces | Sacrifice | Lionsgate Play |
If I could only pick one, I would pick Aasha. Critics have already vouched for it, it is the most self-contained story of the six, and it needs only one sitting.
More Weekend Picks Beyond the Big Six
These Friday OTT Releases did not make my main six, but they are worth knowing about if your weekend OTT watchlist has room:
- Roadies Rebirth premieres October 16 on JioHotstar and MTV and airs every Friday and Saturday at 7 PM.
- Enna Vilai is a Tamil title on Netflix, also available in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Most listings give October 15, though one report says October 16, so check the app.
- Koffee With Karan Season 9 began streaming on JioHotstar on October 14.
- The Diplomat Season 4 reached Netflix on October 14.

My Weekend OTT Watchlist Plan (With Real Time Math)
I like a plan with numbers in it, so here is how I would spread this weekend OTT watchlist across three days:
- Friday night: Aasha. At 155 minutes, a 9:30 PM start finishes just after midnight.
- Saturday: DC in the afternoon, then the first episode of Roadies Rebirth at 7 PM.
- Sunday: Tenzing with the family, followed by the first two episodes of Money Trap. At two episodes a night, you finish all eight in four evenings.
That is five of the October 16 OTT releases in three days without feeling rushed, and it
Conclusion
Friday OTT Releases are at their best when they give you real choice, and the OTT releases on Netflix and ZEE5 prove it on October 16, alongside four other platforms: a Turkish heist series on Netflix, a performance-led Malayalam thriller on ZEE5, a Tamil crime drama on SonyLIV, an Everest biopic on Apple TV, a heist comedy on Prime Video and a hostage thriller on Lionsgate Play.
My own order would be Aasha first, Tenzing second, and Money Trap as the slow-burn binge.
