Akshay Kumar’s film “Sarfira,” originally slated for September 2023 and then rescheduled to February 2024, is now set for release on July 12th, 2024. Directed by Sudha Kongara, it’s an authorised adaptation of “Soorarai Pottru,” originally on Amazon Prime Video in 2020, with streaming rights secured by Disney Plus Hotstar.

Plot and storyline

“Sarfira” is based on the book ‘Simplify’ by Captain Gopinath and true stories of entrepreneurship and aviation. It follows Vir Jagannath Mhatre, the son of a teacher in rural Maharashtra. Determined to make air travel accessible to everyone in India, Vir challenges the established aviation industry with the support of his family and friends. This inspiring Indian story showcases grit, determination, and innovation as Vir defies odds and transforms the socio-economic landscape, empowering ordinary people through his visionary efforts.

Music 

The music for the film is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, Tanishk Bagchi, and Suhit Abhyankar, with lyrics by Manoj Muntashir, Shloke Lal, and Tanishk Bagchi. In April 2022, Prakash announced on Twitter that he finished the first song of the soundtrack. This marks G. V. Prakash Kumar’s second project with director Sudha after “Soorarai Pottru” and his first with Akshay Kumar. The music rights for the film are owned by Junglee Music.

Production

On July 12, 2021, Jyothika and Suriya announced that their Tamil film “Soorarai Pottru” would be remade in Hindi. Sudha Kongara, the original director, was set to helm the remake with funding from Vikram Malhotra’s Abundantia Entertainment. Initially, actors like Ajay Devgn, John Abraham, Akshay Kumar, and Hrithik Roshan were considered for the lead role played by Suriya in the original. Akshay Kumar was confirmed for the role in April 2022, and the film’s title, “Sarfira,” was revealed on February 13, 2024, with a release date set for July 12, 2024.
