Daredevil: Born Again brings back the magic of the original show with intense action and deep storytelling. Right from the first episode, it grabs you with nostalgia, especially during the thrilling staircase fight scene. While it may not completely match the brilliance of the original Daredevil series, it still stands as one of the best post-Endgame Marvel shows.
The show begins with a shocking character death that sets a serious tone. The story takes place years after Daredevil Season 3, with Wilson Fisk (Kingpin) becoming the Mayor of New York and Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) stepping away from his Daredevil identity. However, destiny brings them back into conflict as they struggle to suppress their true selves. The show masterfully explores themes of justice, morality, and redemption.
One of the strongest aspects of Born Again is its depth. It isn’t just about superheroes fighting villains—it tackles real-world issues like police brutality, political corruption, and racial profiling. The cinematography, music, and color grading set a fresh tone while still reminding fans of the original series. Fisk’s rise as a political figure echoes real-world events, adding a realistic touch to the story.
The performances are outstanding. Vincent D’Onofrio shines as Fisk, portraying both his brutality and vulnerability. Charlie Cox effortlessly steps back into Matt Murdock’s shoes, reminding fans why they missed a good Marvel superhero. Ayelet Zurer brings a darker side to Vanessa Fisk, while Margarita Levieva adds emotional depth as psychiatrist Heather Glenn. The late Kamar de los Reyes delivers a moving performance in his final role.
At times, Born Again tries too hard to recreate moments from the original series, which makes certain scenes feel forced. While the show is gripping, the writing is not as complex as before, and some loose ends remain unresolved. However, even with its flaws, it remains one of the best Marvel projects in recent years.
While Born Again may not surpass the original Daredevil, it is a strong and compelling continuation. It proves that Marvel can still create meaningful stories if they focus on character depth and engaging storytelling.
