Vidya Balan is all set to return as Manjulika in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, 17 years after the original. In a recent interview with Galatta India, she shared how she didn’t receive any nominations for her powerful performance in the first Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), directed by Priyadarshan.
Vidya revealed, “I was told that since it’s a remake of a Malayalam film, my performance wasn’t eligible for a nomination. My father felt really bad. He used to say, ‘It was such a great performance, you deserved an award.’ But I understood that someone else’s performance was loved more. It happens.”
Despite not getting nominated for Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Vidya redeemed herself by winning Best Actress awards for four years straight: for Paa (2010), Ishqiya (2011), The Dirty Picture (2012), and Kahaani (2013). “I feel very blessed. I’ve always focused on my work, and I’ve been rewarded more than I imagined,” Vidya added.
Now, Vidya will reprise her iconic role of Manjulika, alongside Kartik Aaryan, Triptii Dimri, Rajpal Yadav, Sanjay Mishra, Vijay Raaz, and Madhuri Dixit, who plays another version of Manjulika. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 is set to release this Friday, November 1, just in time for Diwali.
