Actor Pratibha Ranta found her wings with her first film, Laapataa Ladies, which was India’s official entry for the Oscars 2025. Even though the film didn’t make it to the final shortlist, she is grateful for the recognition and new opportunities it has brought her way.
In a recent interview, Pratibha shared that she will be working this Holi. “I am shooting on Holi, so I won’t be celebrating this year. But I have great memories of the festival. Back in Shimla, it used to be cold, so we avoided playing with water,” she recalls.
She also shared a funny memory: “I would carry an umbrella to avoid getting drenched while going out. I didn’t want to mess up the start of my day. But in Mumbai, Holi is fun because the weather is nice, and we can play with water and colors.”
Pratibha recently recreated Urmila Matondkar’s iconic song Rangeela Re for a campaign with Crocs. She admitted that she kept watching the original video, trying to understand how Urmila did it. “The choreography was inspired by the original, and I was constantly learning from it,” she says.
Recalling the shoot, she adds, “It was an intense experience. I didn’t realize how much effort goes into such shoots. It was my first time dancing in front of the camera, and I now understand the hard work behind it.”
The success of Laapataa Ladies made Pratibha a recognized face. The Kiran Rao directorial may not have made it to the Oscars shortlist, but for Pratibha, it was a dream come true. “I was not disappointed. Just being India’s official entry was a huge achievement for me, especially since it was my first film. It was beyond my expectations, and I’m happy it happened. It has truly changed my life,” she shares.
