Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt recently congratulated Payal Kapadia on her historic Golden Globe nomination for her film All We Imagine As Light. Payal made history by becoming the first Indian filmmaker to be nominated for Best Director at the Golden Globes 2025.
In addition to the Best Director nomination, All We Imagine As Light also received a nomination for Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language. The nominations were announced on December 9, by Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut.
The film’s recognition is a huge achievement, not just for Payal, but for Indian cinema as a whole. It stands alongside some of the world’s most acclaimed films of the year. Actor Rajkummar Rao also wished Payal on Instagram, writing, “Congratulations @payalkapadiafilm. This is awesome. All the very best. Rooting for you.”
All We Imagine As Light tells the story of Prabha, a troubled nurse, and her roommate Anu, who both journey to a beach town and confront their emotions and desires. The film stars Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Chhaya Kadam. It is an official Indo-French co-production between Petit Chaos (France) and Chalk & Cheese and Another Birth (India).
Before its Golden Globe nominations, All We Imagine As Light had already gained international recognition. It won Best International Feature at both the New York Film Critics Circle Awards and the Gotham Awards 2024, solidifying Payal Kapadia’s reputation as a rising star in global cinema.
