After the success of the 2020 film on Amazon Prime Video, Amazon MGM Studios and STXfilms decided to explore making a sequel in August 2020. They confirmed the sequel in February 2023, with Pete Segal returning to direct. Dave Bautista, Chloe Coleman, Kristen Schaal, and Ken Jeong agreed to come back and play their roles again. Anna Faris, Craig Robinson, and Flula Borg also joined the cast. They started filming in February 2023 and finished shooting in Venice in May of that same year.
